Many Firewalls, including Cisco Firewalls/Network Devices, do not allow internal traffic to exit the network and come right back in. This causes issues for users on the internal network to try to utilize an externally registered Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). The most common example of this is webmail. When outside the office - many organizations use webmail.mycompany.com. They register the domain, configure Inbound e-mail Traffic, and Purchase an SSL certificate for the server. However, Once deployed, internal users cannot access this public address. The solution? Duplicate the records for the public address(s) in your Internal DNS Server, substituting the public IP address for the internal private addresses.
